Halting expansion outwards and building upwards does not save agricultural land. Short supply causes prices to escalate beyond reach driving up the price of real estate. Deliberate policy precludes surplus that brings down prices. What was $20,000 and should now be $200,000 has risen to $5,000,000 and up in a similar situation in BC. Million dollar an acre land is not feasible to farm and is left fallow with 50,000 sq. ft. mansions built on it achieving the opposite of what protesters envision, as their emotional reaction plays directly into the hands of the chosen few. Those that inherit will not carry on farming and work for nothing or to lose money, but will borrow on their equity and sell upon winding up of their estate, if not sooner. Subsidies, such as GST exemption, to construct rental units shunts even more money to the chosen few. When housing prices escalate beyond reach green belt prices follow the rise. Supply must exceed demand in order to bring down prices. Green belt land that was cleared of forest for agriculture will grow back into forest again, an estate with a mansion, returned to nature and residents will end up homeless. If that is what they want, that is what they will get.

Municipalities considered allowing sixteen year old persons to vote knowing that secure in their parents home they would oppose expansion of land for housing.

Trudeau doubled prices and trippled mortgage payments by raising interest rates. Interest rates are important in building the more they pay back the more the cost of the home becomes or it doesn't get built. Eliminating the gst does nothing to help with high interest rates and the carbon tax creating more expensive construction. Carbon taxes caused an increase in prices for building materials
